Rancho Cordova's Barrel District has a new name on the taproom door. Mad Fate Beer Co. celebrated its grand opening on October 3 at 11366 Monier Park Place, the space Claimstake Brewing has called home, after a full renovation of the taproom.

A louder sibling

Mad Fate is owned by Brian Palmer and Mike Ryan with partners Eric Newell, Keerthy Muddahanumaiah, and Suresh Kannan, the same group that operates Claimstake. "Mad Fate is a much more upbeat, 'cool' sibling of Claimstake," Kannan said in the grand opening announcement. Claimstake's flagship beer is still brewed, distributed, and served in the taproom alongside Mad Fate's rotating board.

What's pouring

The lineup is rooted in West Coast tradition, with clear, bitter IPAs and a crisp pilsner at its core, plus a mango seltzer. Beer is brewed small and served fresh on site, and the tap list rotates, so the board at the bar is the final word.

Good to know

The taproom is all ages, with guests 21 and over to drink. Mad Fate plans to be open seven days a week with regular events and food trucks on site. The City of Rancho Cordova supported the project through its Economic Development Retail Incentive program.

Bottom line

Mad Fate's motto sums it up: "Pick your pint. Fate picks the rest." Add it to a Barrel District crawl east of Sacramento.
