October 5, 2026 · New York, NY TALEA Beer Co. opened its Upper West Side taproom on September 25, 2026, at 441 Amsterdam Avenue on the corner of West 81st Street. It is the sixth New York City location for the woman-founded brewery, and it moves into the corner space that was home to the Irish pub St. James Gate until late 2024. The Upper West Side room is built as an all-day stop. Co-founder Tara Hankinson told West Side Rag the menu covers brunch and lunch favorites, heartier dishes for evenings and weekends, and kid-friendly food. Earlier coverage of the plans described morning coffee and remote work hours that shift into a more traditional taproom in the late afternoon, with 16 beers on tap. TALEA brews its beer at its flagship Williamsburg taproom and leans into approachable, fruit-forward styles alongside classics. Bestsellers include Al Dente, an Italian-style pilsner, plus specialty sours such as Pina Colada Splash and Rainbow Cookie. As a New York farm brewery, it uses a share of New York State ingredients. Hankinson and LeAnn Darland founded TALEA in 2019 with a goal of widening craft beer's audience beyond the usual crowd. They started by selling beer door to door before opening in Williamsburg, and the brand now runs taprooms in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Both founders are parents of young children and wanted a room that works for a date night and for a Sunday morning with the kids. Upper West Side beer fans now have a neighborhood TALEA at Amsterdam and 81st, open all day with food and a full lineup of the brewery's beers.
